Bio
Julian Lass is an artist, writer, and academic. He holds a PhD in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, an MA in English Literature with First Class Honours from Edinburgh University, and an MA in Photography with Distinction from the University of the Arts London.
His most recent work was for The Guardian on environmental issues, a large corporate copywriting gig, The Memory Catcher for BBC Radio 4, and Quiet as a Flower for Copy Press.
Currently, Julian lectures at Southampton Solent University in the School of Art and Music and at the University of Westminster, London, in the School of Design, Creative, and Digital Industries. His teaching spans various programmes including BA Photography, BA Contemporary Media Arts, BA Fine Art and Mixed Media, and MA Expanded Photography.
Julian's writing and photography has been published by CopyPress, the Art Writing Guild, and performed at London's Whitechapel Gallery, and has appeared in major publications such as The Guardian, Telegraph Magazine, Times Magazine, Geographical Magazine, BBC Radio 4, Radio Times, Photomonitor, Flash Art, British Journal of Photography, and Photo District News.
He previously worked as Picture Researcher for Taschen Books, as Technical Editor for Photography Monthly, and as Staff Writer for the British Journal of Photography.
