Biography
My work bridges photography, moving image, writing, and philosophy. In particular, I am interested in the relation between text and image. I completed a practice-led PhD in Fine Art at the Royal College of Art, awarded 2020, which explored modes of witnessing. I also hold an MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography (Distinction) from the University of the Arts London, an MA in English Literature (First Class Hons) from the University of Edinburgh, and an FdA in Photography from the Arts University Bournemouth (Distinction).
I am the author of Quiet as a Flower (Copy Press, 2024), co-creator of The Memory Catcher (BBC Radio 4, 2025) with Loftus Media, and a contributor to The Guardian and Geographical on environmental themes including green colonialism, and my photographic work has featured in The Times Magazine, Geographical, BBC, Radio Times, The Telegraph Magazine on ecological themes, and Index on Censorship on the racialisation of religion. Previously, I worked as a Picture Researcher at Taschen Books America on several books, including London: A Portrait of a City, The Rolling Stones, and Her Majesty The Queen, and The Telegraph Magazine; Technical Editor at Photography Monthly (Archant Media), and Staff Writer at The British Journal of Photography, where I explored, among many other feature articles and interviews, artists who collaborate. My writing on children in the Gaza strip appeared in The Telegraph Magazine, and other writing in Photomonitor, Flash Art, Photo District News, and the Art Writing Guild, and I've also performed my writing at several venues including The Whitechapel Gallery.
I am a Lecturer at Southampton Solent University, where I teach BA Photography, creative writing, and research. And a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Westminster, where I teach lens-based, emerging and interactive media, moving image, photography, and critical theory on BA Creative Media Arts and BA Photography (also MA Photography, and BA Fine Art and Mixed Media).
My own research begins with attentiveness to what is shown and what is withheld.
